Frances May Schmidt age 76 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Sunday November 8, 2009 at her residence. Frances M. Schmidt was born July 31, 1933 in Des Moines, Iowa to Barney and Emma Gillum Wilcox. She grew up and attended school in the Des Moines area, graduating from East Des Moines High School. On October 11, 1952 she was united in marriage to Paul J. Schmidt in Des Moines. They spent the early years of their marriage living in various cities in the midwest due to Paulchr(39)s career. They moved to Rochester, MN in 1967, and to Bismarck, ND in 1976. In 1985 they moved to Lake Eunice in rural Detroit Lakes. They operated FJchr(39)s Cafe in Audubon, MN for 7 years. Frances was a longtime, active member at St. Marychr(39)s of the Lake Catholic Church. She loved to collect dolls, and had an extensive collection. She liked antiques, and attended many flea markets and auctions in search of them. She also enjoyed collecting jewelry. She was always there to help anyone and was an example of what a good friend and neighbor should be. Frances is survived by her husband Paul, three sons, Joseph Schmidt, of Kearney, Nebraska. Frank (Patricia) Schmidt, of Amston, Connecticut, and Kevin (Carole) Schmidt of Maquoketa, Iowa; one daughter, Toni (Steve) Falk, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; eleven grandchildren, Daniel Schmidt, Lindsay Rawlins, Kyle, Aaron, and Hannah Schmidt, Kate, Tori and Nick Schmidt, Evan, Glen, and Anne Falk; three sisters, Darlene (Jerry) Pike, of Des Moines, Iowa, Shirley (Ed) Ware, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Lily (Moe) Hazen, of Grove Oklahoma; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son Paul Anthony Schmidt, and her parents.
