Lon Linton Seelye

Lon L. Seelye age 85 of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away peacefully in his sleep at his residence in Harlingen, TX on April 1, 2013. Lon Linton Seelye was born on Oct. 22, 1927 in Cass Lake, MN to Ernest and Alma (Erickson) Seelye. He grew up and attended school in Cass Lake, graduating from Cass Lake High School. He served in the U.S. Navy Submarine Service during WWII from 1945 - 1946. He later served in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 during the Korean War. Following the war he attended Bemidji State University and the Gayle Institute in Minneapolis. On January 15, 1955 Lon married Marian Ardies at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Grand Forks, North Dakota. He began working for Burlington Northern Railroad in Pembina, ND, and later was the Burlington Northern Customer Service Representative for Eastern ND and Western MN. He worked for 40 years and loved his job with the railroad. Lon and his wife, Marian also owned and operated the Lake Air Motel in Detroit Lakes for 33 years. In his spare time he loved to golf, fish, and hunt. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church. He was also an active member of the Elks Club, Eagles Club, and the American Legion. One of his greatest enjoyments was spending time at the lake with his grandchildren. Lon is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marian; two daughters, Georgina Wischnak, of Sioux Falls, SD; and Joanne Anderson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; two sons, Mike (Gerry) Seelye, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Tom Seelye, of Detroit Lakes, MN; thirteen grandchildren, Amy (John) Steeke, Katie, Kristy and Eric Larson, Michelle (Billy) Knutson, Ryan (Londa) Anderson, Alycia Windingland, Joshua, Jacob, Jenni, Jordan & Jesse Seelye seven great grandchildren; and one sister, Nina McKennett, of Detroit Lakes, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Clyde, Russell, and Ernest Seelye; two sisters, Gladys VanEps and Clara Monroe; and his grandson Tony Wischnak.
