Gunda Adelle Steen

Gunda A. Steen age 92 of Detroit Lakes, MN died September 7, 2013 at Essentia Health-Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. Gunda Adelle Bakken was born July 5, 1921 to Ole and Caroline Johnson Bakken in Holmesville Township, MN. She grew up and attended country school in Holmesville Township. She later worked in various homes in the area as well as in Minneapolis doing housekeeping and child care. In October of 1943, Gunda started working in Detroit Lakes at the Hartz Grocery Store as a cashier. She was employed there for 13 years. On December 16, 1956 she married Carl Leo Steen at the Egelund Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Holmesville area. In May of 2011, Gunda moved to the Lincoln Park Senior Living Apartments in Detroit Lakes. She has been a resident at Oak Crossing since April of 2013. Gunda enjoyed gardening, watching the birds, cooking, scrapbooking, and animals. She is survived by her brother and sister in law, John and Elsie Bakken, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo in 2011; sister and brother in law, Fern and Ned Larson; an infant sister Jeane; and an infant brother.
