Ethel M. Malvick

Ethel Malvick, formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away in Pendleton, Oregon, at age 93. Ethel M. Halverson was born September 17, 1919, the eldest of seven, to Clara and Roy Halverson on the family farm at Oak Lake Crossing between Audubon, MN and Detroit Lakes, MN. She graduated from the 8th grade country school. She worked at housekeeping in her teenage years for various families and in her 20's attended Air Craft School in Kansas City, Missouri. She then worked in the electronics field in St. Paul, MN during World War II. At age20, Ethel accepted Jesus as her personal Lord and Savior. On September 17, 1943, she married Edwin Malvick from the neighboring farm where she grew up. Ethel and Edwin farmed near Audubon, MN. David was born in 1944 and Gloria in 1946. Later, Ethel became a nurse aid at the St. Mary's Nursing Home. Edwin passed away in 1969. In 1990, Ethel moved to a home in Detroit Lakes, MN where she continued to have a large garden and yard with beautiful flowers. She enjoyed socializing and visiting relatives and was an excellent cook and baker. After official retirement, she continued to care for elderly people including Elva who couldn't live alone anymore and came to live with her. In 2005, Ethel moved into the Winchester Apartments where she enjoyed the socialization. She was active in the First Lutheran Church in Audubon, MN and assisted with her circle and quilting group. In 2010, Ethel moved to Pendleton, Oregon to live with daughter Gloria and son-in-law, Gary Larson, when she couldn't live alone anymore. Ethel enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by son David (Linda) Malvick of Audubon, MN and daughter, Gloria (Gary) Larson of Pendleton, Oregon; seven grandchildren, Tammy (Greg) Anglin of Lake Park, MN , Kim (Matt) Fey of Hawley, MN, Kevin Malvick of Boise, Idaho, Londa (Byron) Fossum of Watford City, ND, Keith (Amanda) Malvick of Audubon, MN, Gwen (Dustin) Wardell of Bozeman, MT, and Joy (Randy) Zwagerman of Bozeman, MT. Eleven great grandchildren: Samantha and Tabatha Anglin; Jacob Fey; Brandon, Kayla, Kyle, Riley, and Ethan Malvick; Kylie, Kenesha and Logan Zwagerman. Sisters: Marian Vandenberg of Bonners Ferry, Idaho and Florence Perrine of Frazee, MN. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Edwin, grandson Daniel Larson, great- grandson, Elijah Fossum, brother Raymond Halverson and sisters: Mabel Stover, Hazel Miller, and Gladys Mitchell.
