Bertha Holm

Bertha Holm age 92 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Tuesday August 19, 2014 at Essentia Health- Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. Bertha Holm was born on March 19, 1922 in Dance, Ontario, Canada to Emil and Clara Elmore AmOrde. She grew up and attended school in Canada. At the age of sixteen she moved to Duluth, MN where she completed High School. She worked summers at Fair Hills Resort on Pelican Lake from 1939-1942. It was there that she met Dale Holm. On October 3, 1943 they were married at Lake Eunice Evangelical Free Church near Detroit Lakes, MN. They lived on Dale's family farm for three years before moving to Moorhead, MN, where they lived until 1959, when they moved back to the farm. She lived and raised her family on the farm. She has been a resident of Oak Crossing since 2011. Because Dale's worked took him away for extended periods, Bertha managed a home with ten children many times without his help. She did so by being very organized, and having her children help with household chores. She was a very hard worker who was never known to complain. She was always concerned for everyone else's well being. Especially making sure everyone was well fed. Her church was a very important part of her life. She was well known for baking wedding cakes, of which she made hundreds over her lifetime. She also enjoyed making her own birthday cards. She remained very active late into her life. She is survived by three sons, Robert Holm, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Donald (Deborah) Holm, of Maricopa, AZ; and Dennis (Carol) Holm, of Detroit Lakes, MN; six daughters, Dianne (Ronald) Goette, of Stillwater, MN; Lois (Daniel) Messner, of Wapakoneta, OH; Susan Abrahamson, of Tigard, OR; Margaret (John) Rabbitt, of Coppell, TX; Debra Henk, of Tigard, OR; and Cathy (Mark) Crowder, of Aiken, SC; twenty nine grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; three sisters, Marvel Engler, of Ft. Frances, Ontario; Lorena Jamen, of Atikokan, Ontario; and Edna (Ralph) Benjamin, of Ft. Frances, Ontario. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale (1996); one son, Larry Holm; one sister, Willa Kerr; and one brother, William AmOrde
