Rudolph Parnel Edwardson

Rudolph (Rudy) P. Edwardson age 92 of Fargo, ND, formerly of Detroit Lakes, MN died September 19, 2014 surrounded by his family. Rudy was born April 3, 1922 in Brantford, ND to John and Bessie Edwardson. He attended country school near his home and later graduated from high school in Carrington, ND. Rudy served in the 164th Infantry of the North Dakota National Guard. They were called to duty and served from 1941-1945, fighting many strategic battles in the South Pacific against strong Japanese forces. Rudy then returned and went to college at the University of North Dakota. On November 27, 1947 he was united in marriage to Dolores Short in Carrington, ND. They farmed near Carrington until moving to Inglewood, CA, where Rudy worked for Air Research. In 1956 they moved back to Carrington, where they continued farming. In 1967 they purchased the Del-Claire Motel in Carrington. They operated the motel for seventeen years, when they retired and moved to Big Floyd Lake near Detroit Lakes, MN. Rudy enjoyed golf, fishing, hunting, gardening, wood working, playing cards and following the Twins and Vikings. Time spent with his family was very important to him. "We lost a one of a kind member of the family." He was a smart, humble, kind soul with a unique sense of humor. His devotion to his family was matched only by the joy that they brought him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Rudy is survived by his wife, Dolores; one daughter, Paula (Gary) Hammes, of Fargo, ND; two sons, Robert Edwardson, of Carrington, ND; and David (Maria) Edwardson, of Shoreview, MN; six grandchildren, Stacy (Jeff) Hammes; Ryan (Melissa) Edwardson; Jason (Stephanie) Hammes; Dustin (Tina) Hammes; Samantha Edwardson; and Andrew Edwardson; six great grandchildren, Reed, Cole, and Brianna Edwardson; Jersey Hammes; and Hannah and Sage Hammes. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Merrill and Paul Edwardson; and one sister, Eleanore Steen.
