Ruth Lorraine Fischer

Ruth L. Fischer age 92 of Detroit Lakes, MN died November 10, 2014 at Perham Health in Perham, MN. Ruth Lorraine Fischer was born March 1, 1922 on the family farm near Lisbon, ND to Walter and Luella (Bock) Johnson. She grew up and attended school near Lisbon, graduating from Lisbon High School. Following graduation Ruth moved to Minneapolis, MN to find work. On December 31, 1941 she was united in marriage to Richard Fischer in Minneapolis, MN. Because Richard was serving the country in WWII, Ruth lived in various cities over the next few years, according to where he was stationed at the time. Following the war they settled in Richfield, MN. In 1950 they moved to Glenwood, MN where they lived until moving to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1973. In 1979 they moved to Rogers, Arkansas where they planned to live in retirement. Richard died in 1980 and Ruth moved back to Detroit Lakes in 1987. Ruth is survived by one son, Rick (Lynn Merkwan) Fischer, of Maple Grove, MN; three daughters, Kay Palm, of Fort Pierce, FL; Pam Irgens, of White Bear Lake, MN; and Jodi (Wayne) Disse, of Detroit Lakes, MN; ten grandchildren, Todd Stivland, Darcy Rumpza, Tim Stivland, Michael Libby, Anne Cullen, Brian Irgens, Nate Fischer, Adam Fischer, Angie Disse, and Stacy Anderson; sixteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; two brothers, Harold and Robert Johnson; one sister, Lola Miller; and her parents.
