David "Sam" Joseph Jager

David J. Jager age 82 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Monday March 23, 2015 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND. David Joseph Jager was born on July 4, 1932 in Sauk Centre, MN to John and Mary Nierman Jager. The family moved to the Rochert, MN area in 1936, where David grew up and attended country school near his home. On June 26, 1960 he was united in marriage to Joanne Hanson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Osage, MN. They made their home and farmed in Shell Lake Township. Over the years David worked at Crystal Sugar in Moorhead, MN, Peavey Lumber in Detroit Lakes, and Dynamic Homes in Detroit Lakes. He retired from Dynamic Homes in 1997. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, woodworking, cutting wood, and reading and watching western novels and movies. Time spent with his grandchildren was very special to him. He is survived by one son, Mark (Pam) Jager, of Detroit Lakes, MN; three daughters, Debra (Dean) Grossman, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Krystal (Allen) Dahring, of Vergas, MN; and Janelle Jager, of Detroit Lakes, MN; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Charles (Georgeen) Jager, of Rochert, MN; and John Jager, of California; four sisters, Virginia Morse, of Bird Island, MN; Isabel Anderson, of Frazee, MN; Trudy (Ron) Chapman, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Rita Hannem, of Bemidji, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne (2010); granddaughter, Veronika Jager; three brothers, Albert, Norbert, and Richard; four sisters, Katherine, Patricia, Helen, and Mary; and his parents.
