Joan Lea Engberg

Joan Engberg, 84, of Detroit Lakes, MN, died at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND on Sunday, June 28, 2015. Joan was born on November 29, 1930, in Lemmon, SD to Hank and Marian Kirchoff. Joan and her family moved several times in her childhood before settling in Carrington, ND where she graduated in 1948. It was in Carrington where she met Don Engberg, whom she married on December 26, 1949. They lived in Jamestown, ND For two years, Larimore, ND for two years and Isle, MN for two years before settling in Detroit Lakes, MN in 1956, where she lived until her death. Joan was the heart of the family, raising nine children and welcoming twenty grandchildren, and seventeen great grandchildren. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and spending time with her beloved family. Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; her two brothers, Richard Kirchoff and Gary Kirchoff; one sister, Janice Bitzer; a son, Lance and a granddaughter. She is survived by nine children, Lynn (Clare) Engberg of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lea (Paul) Saarion of Moorhead, MN; Lon (Susan) Engberg of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lauri Koole of Detroit Lakes, MN; LuAnn (Ryan) Wood of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lane (Barb) Engberg of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lisa (Jon) Wehde of Barrow, AK; Lanette (Dick) Corbett of Frazee, MN; and Michael Engberg of Everett, WA.
