Ruth Beatrice Ruud

Ruth Beatrice Ruud, age 96, of Detroit Lakes, MN, passed away peacefully Tuesday, June 30, 2015 surrounded by family at Essentia Health Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Ruth was born March 18, 1919 in Detroit Lakes, MN. She was the daughter of John A. Sealander and Mary C. Sealander. She grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes. She graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College in 1941 with BA and from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Library Science in 1948. Ruth met the love of her life, Russell Ruud while attending University of Minnesota working in the library together. They were married June 25, 1949 at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. Ruth and Russell made their home in Moorhead, MN where they both worked for many years. Ruth worked at Concordia College in the reserved section of the library. She was very active as a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Moorhead, involved with the church library and in the many activities of the women's group there. Other organizations she was involved in were Moorhead Woman's Club, President of Red River Valley Library Association, Radio Board of Christian Women Speaks, and was a member of the Sons of Norway. Growing up, Ruth enjoyed spending the summer months living at the family cottage on Big Floyd Lake. Throughout her life she retold the humorous stories and the many fond memories created there. She passed on family traditions and the love of the lake to her children and grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed her love of music and the creative arts. In retirement she took up rosemaling and oil painting. She and her husband, Russell, worked together on many creative projects. Ruth moved back to her home town of Detroit Lakes in 2004 after Russell died and lived her remaining days at the various living facilities of St. Mary's Essentia Health. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Russell Ruud, her parents John A. Sealander and Mary C. Sealander, her brothers Carl Sealander and John Sealander II and her niece Carla Sealander. Ruth is survived by her sister Marjorie Sealander, her children, Daniel (Nancy) Ruud in Fargo, ND, Arthur Ruud in Grand Forks, ND, Rachel (Rodney) Bauch in Bainbridge Island, WA, her grandchildren, McKaila Ruud and Gianna Bauch, nieces and nephews; Sonja (George) Mockridge in Daly City, CA; Judith Sealander, Walton Beach, FL; John Sealander III, Dallas, TX; Sara Sealander (daughter Alexandria), Dallas, TX.
