David E. Ryder, 93 of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Thursday, July 16, 2015 at Essentia Health - St. Mary's Hospital. Dave was born on December 7, 1921, the son of James and Lydia (Janke) Ryder in Otter Tail County, Minnesota. He was raised and educated in Richville, Minnesota. As a young man, Dave enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served during WWII. After receiving an honorable discharge, he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Schempp on January 5, 1947. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where Dave owned and operated Tri-State Heating and Cooling until his retirement in 1980. Dave enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, bird watching and traveling. Dave and Evelyn also loved taking part in many square dances throughout the area. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee and a piece of pie every afternoon while visiting with friends and family. Dave is survived by eight grandchildren, Barbara (Richard) Tesarek of Salol, MN; John (Melissa) Bien of Sioux Falls, SD; Brenda (Duane) Runge of White, SD; Jason (Jessica) Bien of Bismarck , ND; Jeremy (Amanda) Berberich of Fargo, ND; Charlie Berberich of Seattle, WA; Matt (Jenna) Berberich of Fargo, ND; Priscilla Ryder of Wahpeton, ND; twelve great-grandchildren; sister, Sue (Robert) Wagner of Richville, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Evelyn (2012), son, Paul "Butch" Ryder, daughter, JoAnn Berberich, brothers, George (Veery), James (Lorine) and sisters, Hazel (Ernie), Dorothy (Alvin) and Vivian (Al).
