Elaine Evelyn Sayre

January 19, 1927 — July 25, 2015

Elaine E. Sayre, 88, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, passed into eternal life Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Elaine Evelyn Siegert was born on January 19, 1927, the daughter of Otto and Emma (Jahnke) Siegert in Hunter, North Dakota. She was raised and educated in Hillsboro, North Dakota. Elaine was baptized (2/13/1927) and confirmed (7/27/1941) at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.She graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1944 at the age of 16 and was also a graduate of the Radio Television & Electronics Institute of Mpls. She was united in marriage to David Sayre on October 19, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They made their home in Hillsboro and also lived in Harwood and Fargo ND before moving to Detroit Lakes. Dave passed away Aug 22, 1988. Elaine was employed by the MN State Technical College in Detroit Lakes for 16 years before retiring in 1984. She enjoyed sewing and gardening; that lady could make anything grow! Family was also very important to her, and she enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Also very important was her church family. She volunteered her time for guilds, quilt making,Sunday school and anything that was needed. She enjoyed getting together with a group of church ladies who named themselves The Wildcats. They have been life-long friends. Elaine is survived by her children, Don (Kathy) Sayre of Alexandria, MN; Victoria (Larry) Beier of Faribault, MN; Lauren Sayre of Detroit Lakes, MN; three grandchildren, Guy, Greg (Andrea) Sayre and Amanda (Ben Kieffer) Sayre, four great-grandchildren, Samuel, Evy Lou, Luke and Oliver; two sisters, Rosie Jacobs of Detroit Lakes, MN; Mary Ann (Richard) Remme of Fargo, ND; sister-in-law, Ruth Siegert of Hillsboro, ND; numerous nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, son, Mark, brother, Marvin Siegert and brother-in-law, Darrell Jacobs.
