Martha Ueke, 93, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Martha was born on March 21, 1922 to Joseph and Frances (Kominski) Zayic in Ogema, Minnesota. She was raised and educated in Ogema. Martha was united in marriage to George Ueke on November 27, 1942 in Callaway, Minnesota. They made their home in rural Callaway, where George farmed. Martha worked at Swift's Turkey Plant for twenty-three years until her retirement. After, Martha's retirement they made their home in Frazee. She has resided at the Lamplighter and Emmanuel Nursing Home since 2001. Martha was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Evergreen. She enjoyed embroidery, reading, watching TV, gardening and tending to her flowers. Martha was an excellent baker known for her famous cinnamon rolls. She cherished time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. Martha is survived by her children, Henry (Linda) Ueke of Congress, AZ; Wally (Mary Ann) Ueke of Frazee, MN; Roger (Betty) Ueke of Mesa, AZ; Linda (Tony) Beck of Menahga, MN; Jim (Kitty) Ueke of Detroit Lakes, MN; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Marion Zayic of Frazee, MN; sister-in-law, Cordela Ueke of Fergus Falls, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Martha was preceded in death by her parents, husband, George, daughter, Lorraine Ueke, five brothers and one sister.
