Marjorie Orine Sealander

February 17, 1916 — August 17, 2015

Marjorie, daughter of John (J.A) and Mary Sealander, was born in Detroit Lakes on Feb. 17 1916. She lived a long and healthy life until shortly before her death on August 17, 2015 at the age of 99. Marjorie was born and raised in Detroit Lakes, MN, graduating Valedictorian of her high school class. Some of her favorite childhood memories were from her summers at the family cabin on Big Floyd Lake. She received her bachelor's degree in 1938 from Gustavus Adolphus College and was a member of the Delta Pi Epsilon Sorority. After college, she began her career teaching school in Minnesota and ending up teaching high school business and economics classes at North High School and Washburn High School in Minneapolis for over twenty five years. As summer approached, she greatly looked forward to coming back to Detroit Lakes for the summer. Upon retirement, she returned again to her hometown, and became the caregiver for her parents and other elderly family members. She was a kind and generous woman who held her family in the highest regard. Marjorie enjoyed spending holidays and vacations with her sister, Ruth Ruud, and her family. Her nephews, nieces and great nieces played a very special part in her life. Marjorie was an avid reader and walker and enjoyed bird watching. She was a member of First Lutheran Church throughout her life. She was known for her perpetual state of contentment. She was one of the first residents to move into the Winchester on Washington in Detroit Lakes. She enjoyed many years there, with her sister Ruth ultimately moving into the same building. Marjorie eventually moved to Lincoln Park Assisted Living, then in February moved to Oak Crossing. In her short time at Oak Crossing, she uplifted the spirits of her caregivers, offering frequent positive comments and compliments. While her last months were very challenging, she communicated a message of love to everyone she came in contact with. She felt well cared for and attended to there. Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Carl Sealander and John Sealander II, sister Ruth Ruud, and niece Carla Sealander. Marjorie is survived by her nieces and nephews; Daniel (Nancy) Ruud in Fargo, ND; Arthur Ruud in Grand Forks, ND; Rachel (Rodney) Bauch in Bainbridge Island, WA; Sonja (George) Mockridge in Daly City, CA; Judith (Jerry) Sealander, Walton Beach, FL; John (Janet) Sealander III, Dallas, TX; Sara Sealander (daughter Alessandra), Dallas, TX; and her great nieces, McKaila Ruud and Gianna Bauch.
