David Cunningham Welch

March 13, 1924 — November 4, 2015

David Welch, 91, died on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at Diamond Willow Assisted Living, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He had a lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's and had his family by his side when he passed. Dave was born on March 31, 1924 in Grove City, Pennsylvania to Homer and Alice Welch. He was raised there and graduated from Grove City High School. After moving to Greenville, PA, he met and married Betty Davis Coleman on July 1, 1950, gaining a step-daughter, Georgina. They made their home there, adding to their family with John and Roberta. Dave was later divorced from Betty, but maintained a friendship with her in later years. In Greenville, he had a successful career with Prudential as a sales agent, retiring in the early 80's. Dave was involved with the Lion's Club, was a proud Shriner and Mason, and also was a member of the United Methodist Church. Dave was known for his work ethic, his generosity and his sense of humor, which was with him to the very end. He was a wonderful and kind father. Dave enjoyed being at the beach in the sunshine, whether it was at Pymatuning or Conneaut Lake in Pennsylvania, the Jersey Shore or in Florida, where he visited frequently after his retirement. Dave is survived by his daughter, Roberta "Bobby" (Dave) Smith of Detroit Lakes, MN; grandsons, Greg Smith of Washington, D.C. and Charlie Smith of Minneapolis, MN; his son, John of Daytona Beach, FL; step-daughter, Georgina (Larry) Kassebaum of Alachua, FL; his step-family, including grandson, Bryan (Brandi) Peck of Orlando, FL; granddaughter, Deborah (James) White of Orlando, FL; along with step great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren all of Florida. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother, Jack Welch.
