Darlene B. Bakken, 85, Detroit Lakes, MN died Sunday, December 06, 2015 at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Darlene was born on July 11, 1930 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota the daughter of William and Martha Christianson. She was raised and educated in Vermillion, South Dakota. Darlene was united in marriage on June 16, 1949 to Enoch Bakken in Vermillion. They made their home in rural Audubon, Minnesota. She stayed at home to raise their children and sold Avon for many years, she later worked at Savioe Cleaners. Darlene was a member of Assembly of God Church in Detroit Lakes. She enjoyed baking, cooking and canning. Darlene was known especially for her flat bread and Christmas cookies. She also enjoyed puzzles, scrabble and bird watching. Darlene cherished time spent with her family. She had a love for babies, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Darlene is survived by her two sons, Steve (Karen) Bakken, of York, PA; and Paul (Char) Bakken, of Detroit Lakes, MN; four daughters, Linda Somerville, of Audubon, MN; Sharlene McIlwain, of Fargo, ND; Deanna (Tim) Schons, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Lisa Small, of Detroit Lakes, MN; eleven grandchildren, Blake Bakken, Jesse (Jessica) Schons, Alysia Schons, Carrie (Marc) Santiago, Heather (Tyler) Larson, Leah (Jed) Restad, Michelle Bakken, Patrick Bakken, Wesley Bakken, Megan Small and Mark Small; seven great grandchildren, Matthew Schons, Nora, Dani, and Leo Schons, Colten Johnson, Leighton and Haddie Larson ;sister, Norma Grey of Fargo, ND; many nieces and nephews. Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Enoch (2013), one grandson, Joey Bakken; two great grandchildren, Reese and Hudsyn Larson; twin sister, Eileen Donahue and sister, Lorraine Ruring.
