Ruben H. Kyro age 81 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Monday December 28, 2015 at Sanford Health in Fargo, North Dakota. Ruben Hugo Kyro was born March 7, 1934 in rural Menahga, Minnesota to Hugo and Mayme (Peterson) Kyro. He attended country school near his home and as he often told “walked up hill both ways”. He then graduated from Sebeka High School. He attended the Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis where he received his LUTC certification. On May 28, 1955 he was united in marriage to Patricia Lund at Bethany Lutheran Church in rural Menahga. They made their home in Minneapolis and Ruben started his career in the insurance industry. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1962, where Ruben owned and operated his own insurance agency until his retirement in 1999. Ruben loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, working puzzles, bowling, and being at the lake cabin. He was a member at First Lutheran Church and the Eagles Club. He also was a volunteer firefighter for the city of Detroit Lakes for many years. He is survived by his wife Patricia; two sons, Alan (Kelly) Kyro, of Maple Plain, MN; and Bruce (Melissa) Kyro, of Prior Lake, MN; one daughter, Judy (Rick) Soule, of Champlin, MN; five grandchildren, Matthew (Melissa) Soule, Nathan Soule, Elisabeth Kyro, Dylan Kyro, and Cody Kyro; two sisters, Jeanette (Harry) Eklund, of Isanti, MN; and Doris (Marvin) Torkkola, of Maple Grove, MN; one brother, Jim (Jeanette) Kyro, of Dayton, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Jerry Kyro; and his parents.
