Leonard Marvin Livingood

Leonard Marvin Livingood age 89, formerly of Callaway, MN died after a courageous struggle with Alzheimer’s. He passed away peacefully at the Fergus Fall’s Veteran’s Home with his family by his side. He was born on the family farm north of Detroit Lakes, MN on January 9, 1927 to Charles B. and Esther Livingood. He was raised on the family farm and attended school in District #28. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and served aboard the U.S. Burleson, and the battleship U. S. Wisconsin as a barber and fireman. He took part in the first air and water nuclear bomb test at Marshall Island. Following his discharge, he attended “G.I. on the Farm Training.” He married Alfryda Seim from Detroit Lakes in 1949. They settled on a farm near Richwood, MN where they resided for 65 years and raised a family of five children. He retired after many years of Construction work for Kershner Construction and Western Products. Leonard was an active member of Bakke Lutheran Church where he served as the cemetery sexton and head usher for many years. He especially enjoyed designing and building various projects for the church. He loved the outdoors and was a skilled woodworker, with the ability to invent and build almost anything. He enjoyed his grandchildren, his lake cabin, fishing, hunting, gardening, playing cards, and traveling with his 5th wheeler. He loved the family sing-a-longs and participated in his love of singing to the very end of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Edwin, Curtis, and Dean Livingood; four sisters, Alice Storm, Gladys Voxland, Myrtle Jacobson, and Vernes Jacobson; grandson, Marcus Livingood; and daughter in law, Lori Livingood. Surviving are his loving wife, Alfryda Livingood; children, Kelly (Jane) Livingood, of Faribault, MN; Kevin Livingood, of Fargo, ND; Kathy (Dave) Aarhus, of Fergus Falls, MN; Karen (Mike) Lindstrom, of Coon Rapids, MN; and Kristie Livingood, of Plymouth, MN; three grandchildren, James Livingood, and John and Ryan Aarhus; one great grandchild, Jerimiah Rand; three brothers, Lester Livingood, Marlyn (Phyllis) Livingood, and Harlan (Pat) Livingood; two sisters, Charlene Johnson and Marlys Brahmer; sister in law, Elly Livingood, and numerous nieces and nephews.
