Jerome R. Walberg, 69, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at his home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Jerry was born on March 16, 1946 the son of Carl and Lena (Moser) Walberg in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He attended country school and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1964. Jerry was united in marriage to Patricia Barry on November 29, 1963 in Detroit Lakes. After graduating from high school, they moved to Chicago where Jerry worked as a machinist and a design engineer until returning to the family farm in 1971. While operating the family farm, Jerry also purchased Anderson Septic in 1986 and ran the septic business for twenty years until he sold the business to solely focus on farming. He continued to farm until his health began to fail. Jerry was very creative and would design things to help with the daily work activities of the farm. He loved farming and had a close relationship with many area farmers. Jerry was an active member of Bakke Lutheran Church, serving on church council, men’s bible study, helping with the construction of the church basement and snow removal at the church. Jerry enjoyed breakfast at the Northside Café, fishing, tinkering in the shop and gardening. He loved his family, his dog, Zeva and especially spending time with his grandchildren. Jerry was a very kind and gentle man. Jerry is survived by his two sons, Scott (Becky) Walberg of Detroit Lakes, MN Steven (Melanie) Walberg of Detroit Lakes, MN; seven grandchildren, Andrea, Will, Wyatt and Max Walberg, Erin (Jamie) Johnson, Amy (Nick) Dauzat and Mike (Tori) Block; four great grandchildren; loving companion, Bobbi Wilke of Detroit Lakes, MN; brother, Milt (Joan) Walberg of Arlington Heights, IL; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patricia (2001), and brother, James Walberg.
