Gerald E. Olson 74, of Moorhead, Minnesota died Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Eventide Living Center, Moorhead, Minnesota. Jerry was born on May 21, 1941 the son of Elmer and Ida (Glawe) Olson in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He was raised and educated in Frazee, graduating from Frazee High School in 1957. As a young man, Jerry went to work for Evan’s Family Grocery Store in Detroit Lakes, where he worked for a number of years. He was united in marriage to Glennis Hovelson on June 2, 1973 at Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. They made their home on the Olson homestead near Vergas, Minnesota where Jerry also did some hobby farming. He continued to work in the grocery industry, later working for Goodman’s Supermarket in Vergas until his health forced him to retire. Jerry was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. He also enjoyed playing cards, being outdoors and observing the beauty of the outdoors. Jerry is survived by his three daughters, Amy (Chris) Ryan of East Grand Forks, MN; Angie (Jeff) Richardson and Tammy (Steve) Alvarez both of Bull Head City, AZ; daughter-in-law, Jodi Olson of Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren, Chelsea, Chloe, Cassidy and Callie Alvarez, Jacek and Jaeli Richardson, Ciara Ryan and Rylee Olson; two sisters, Marilyn Haapala of Princeton, MN; Phyllis Grossman of Audubon, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, son, Jamie Olson, brothers-in-law, John Haapala and Duane Grossman.
