Virginia "Ginni" Powers

Virginia “Ginni” Halseth Powers, 87 of Rochert, MN, died Monday, February 29, 2016, at Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.   Ginni was born on September 13, 1928 to Vivian and George Malmo in Gonvick, MN.  She was raised in Gonvick until moving to Mentor and then Seattle where she graduated from high school in June of 1945.  After moving back to Gonvick, she attended Bemidji State Teachers College, Bemidji, MN.   Ginni was united in marriage to Gerald Halseth on May 7, 1948.  They had 3 children (Jeff, Ginni and Jerry) while living in St. Louis Park, MN.  They moved to Excelsior in 1957 and shortly thereafter, their 4th child Scott was born in 1959.    Ginni was devoted to her family as a full-time homemaker until joining Honeywell as an Administrative Assistant from 1965 to 1968.  After moving to Moorhead, MN in 1968, she worked at the Placement Office at Moorhead State University.  From 1971-1991, she served as Deputy Clerk of Court for Clay County, retiring in 1991.   Ginni married Dana Powers on December 30, 1993 at Lutheran Church of the Good Sheperd, Moorhead, MN.  They made their home in Rochert, MN on Height of Land Lake.  In their retirement, she assisted Dana as he officiated at more than 1500 weddings.   Ginni also enjoyed gardening, golf, bridge club, traveling, assorted lake activities and wintering in Arizona.  She was a foster parent for several young adults, an active volunteer for Meals-On-Wheels, the Food Pantry, and also served as a Stephens Minister for many years.    For the last several years, Ginni and Dana also resided at Touchmark in Fargo, ND and made many special friends.  Upon Dana’s death, Ginni transitioned to Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes due to health issues where she received compassionate care until her death.    Ginni is survived by her children, Jeff (Diane) Halseth, Ramsey, MN; Ginni (Tim) Webb, Albuquerque, NM; Jerry (Marilyn) Halseth, Plymouth, MN; Scott (Lisa) Halseth, Glyndon, MN.   David Powers (Barb Olson), Detroit Lakes, MN; Diane Koole, Cushing, MN; Duane (Cathy) Powers, Fargo, ND; Denise (Mike) Anderson, Moorhead, MN, daughters-in-law, Kim Powers, Fargo, ND and Marian Feenstra , Maui, HI;  seventeen grandchildren, twenty one  great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.   Ginni was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dana Powers and his sons Dana Mark and Dale; her first husband Gerald; brother, Dean Malmo; sisters, Marilyn Duhn and Deanna McKenzie.    In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimers Association.
