Eloise Alzetta Omberg

September 26, 1931 — March 5, 2016

Eloise A. Omberg age 84 of Detroit Lakes, MN died March 5, 2016 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN., surrounded by her family. Eloise and her twin brother Elwood were born Sept. 26, 1931 to Nestor and Agnes Olson in Lake Park, MN. She attended school in Lake Park and graduated from high school there. She attended Moorhead State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in education. She went on to teach in Elementary Schools for thirty five years. Anyone who knew her would have heard her say “Children are truly the most delightful people in the world!” “Teaching young children brings the most happiness and reward one could hope for in a profession.” Eloise married Julian Omberg in Reno, Nevada on June 6, 1953, where he was serving in the United States Air Force. They made their home in many places, but have spent the last fifty five years near Detroit Lakes. Eloise volunteered in many ways at First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes. She volunteered in various ways in Children’s Ministry and in hospitality. She was also a member of Ruth Circle and FLCW. Eloise also volunteered as a meal server and later for several years as a shopper for residents at Winchester on Washington. Eloise was so thankful for the many years of retirement that she and Julian enjoyed together. They liked to travel and spent some winter months in Florida, but her favorite place was their home and woods near Floyd Lake where they lived for over forty five years. Eloise always felt fortunate that most of her family lived close by. Her children and their families were a priority to her, and time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren was precious. Eloise is survived by her husband, Julian; three sons, Stuart (Kathy) Omberg, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lee (Karen) Omberg, of Perham, MN; and Steven (Holly) Omberg, of Dent, MN; four grandchildren, Nick Omberg, Kris Swenson, Benjamin Omberg, and Karlee Werner. Three great grandchildren Mason and Mya Omberg, Presley Swenson and baby Werner expected in July; one brother, Elwood (Donna) Olson, of Aitkin, MN; two sisters, Cheryl Turcotte, of Brainerd, MN; and Pam (Dave) Johnston, of Hutchinson, MN; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her step mother, Hannah Olson.
