Donald G. Onstad age 88 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Wednesday March 30, 2016 at his residence. Donald Glenn Onstad was born January 30, 1928 in Plentywood, Montana to S.P. and Delores Buckman Onstad. They moved to Erskine, MN for a short time before moving to McIntosh, MN, where Don grew up and attended school. Don served in the United States Navy during WWII. On March 31, 1951 he was united in marriage to Delores Peterson in Fridley, MN. They made their home in Minneapolis and Don worked for the Onan Company. They moved to Detroit Lakes, MN in 1970, where they purchased and ran the Broken Wheel Supper Club. Don later owned and operated Lakes Motors in Detroit Lakes for 30 years. Don was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed golfing, bowling, and playing cards. Time spent with family was very important to him. He is survived by two daughters, Deb Wood, of Grand Rapids, MN; and Susan (Patrick) Samuelson, of Becker, MN; one son, Patrick (Sandra) Onstad, of Detroit Lakes, MN; six grandchildren, Amanda (Andy) MacDonell, Justin (Ann) Wood, Johanna (Sean) Dawson, Nicolette Samuelson, Matthew Onstad, and Michael Onstad; five great grandchildren, Cydney Wood, Isabella Wood, Jamison Wood, Beau Dawson, and Lily Dawson; three sisters, Audrey Knight, of Mpls, MN; Sylvia Mourning, of Prior Lake, MN; and Karen Neilson, of Mpls, MN; one brother, Ralph “Rock” Onstad, of Lower Lake, CA; and two sisters in law, Ardy LeBlanc, of Coon Rapids, MN; and Donna Onstad, of Albertville, MN. He was preceded in death by his wife Delores (2012); three brothers and sisters in law, Delvin (Jean) Onstad; Russell (LaVern) Onstad; and Alden (Margaret) Rice; and one sister and brother in law, Joyce (Norman) Moen.
