Donald LeRoy Erickson

  Donald LeRoy Erickson 84, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Don was born on May 10, 1931, the son of Albert and Clara (Peterson) Erickson in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota. He was raised and educated in Pelican Rapids, graduating from Pelican Rapids High School in 1949. After graduation Don worked Crane Johnson Lumber and Ebesson Construction. Don enlisted in the United States Army in 1952, serving with the 149th Tank Battalion in Munich, Germany.  He received an honorable discharged in February of 1954 after graduating from the 43rd Infantry Division Academy with high honors. After returning from the service, Don married LaVonne Moench on October 22, 1955 in Frazee, Minnesota. Don went to work for Wilcox Lumber in Frazee and McIntosh, Minnesota. He later became manager for Wilcox Lumber in Detroit Lakes and was the regional manager for Peavey Company until his retirement. Don was confirmed at Pelican Valley Lutheran church and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed making people laugh and smile, Don also liked to fish and was interested in books or documentaries of the old west and wars. Don is survived by his by his sons, Bradley Erickson of Arlington, TX; Brian (Sandy) Erickson of Detroit Lakes, MN; three granddaughters, Kristen Zapata, Lauren (Drayton) Caylor and Katherine (Steven) Palmer; four great grandchildren, Gavin, Gauge, Brooke and Oliver; brothers, Amos Erickson of Glasgow, MT; Randolph (Pat) Erickson of Pelican Rapids, MN; Ernest (Shirley) Erickson Cottage Grove, MN; numerous nieces and nephews. Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife, LaVonne (1996), brothers, Clifford and Arthur Erickson, sisters, Clarice Peterson, Alice Cobb, Myrna Runningon and Deloris Haugrud.
