Audrey Maye Harris

Audrey Maye Harris, 72, of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Monday, May 16, 2016 at her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Audrey was born on June 14, 1943 in Baker, Minnesota the daughter of Russell and Clarina (Rindahl) Hegge. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Barnesville, Minnesota. Audrey was raised and educated in Barnesville, graduating from Barnesville High School. As a young woman, Audrey moved to East Chicago, Indiana where she lived and worked for a number of years. On June 15, 1976, she was united in marriage to Paul Harris. She worked as a commercial seamstress until he became ill. She then took care of him at home until his passing in May of 1990.   She then returned to Barnesville and worked in the Fargo area until her retirement in 2003. Audrey moved to Detroit Lakes in 2009 to be closer to her family. Audrey will be remembered each time we see a butterfly. They were always present in her world. She had a passion for her granddaughters, Brianne and Brittany, as well as her “grandsons”, Dustin, Travis and Jeremy. Always the prankster, did you know they now make Peeps for EVERY holiday? She loved to play BINGO and looked forward to Girls’ Days at the casino. Audrey was willing to share all that she had. This included donation of a kidney to her sister (and best friend) Suzanne, giving her the gift of life. Audrey is survived by her daughter Wendy (Robin) Raftevold of Detroit Lakes, MN and their children, Brianne and Brittany; special niece, Kristi Hughes of Barnesville, MN and her sons, Dustin, Travis and Jeremy Hughes; sisters, Jackie (Howard) Peet; Edele Rosenfeldt and Judy Getz; numerous nieces and nephews; step son, Calvin Harris and step daughter, Lisa Harris. Audrey was preceded death by her parents, Russ and Clarina Hegge, her husband, Paul Harris and his two sons, a brother, Russ Hegge, sisters, Dianne Cusey, Suzanne Willette and infant brother, Adrian Hegge.
