Leo Joseph Johnson 86 of Detroit Lakes, Minnesota died Sunday May 22, 2016 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Leo was born on November 11, 1929 near Leonard, North Dakota to Henning and Lulu (Gulland) Johnson. He was raised and educated near Leonard. Leo served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from October 28, 1947 to June 3, 1952. During this time his platoon was one of the first to enter Korea. Leo received a Bronze Star for different invasions in Korea. Leo was married to Janet L. Caskey on November 5, 1955 in Fargo, North Dakota. They lived in Fargo until 1975 and then moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota where Leo worked at Metz Baking Company until retiring on January 1, 1995 as General Manager. They made their retirement home on Little Floyd Lake, Detroit Lakes. Leo was a member of the United Methodist Church, VFW and American Legion. He loved the lake, fishing and hunting. Leo cherished time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Leo is survived by his wife, Janet Johnson; daughter, Joan Brist (Rodney Swanson); son, Gerald Johnson all of Detroit Lakes, MN; three grandchildren, Jacob, Amy (Zac) Smith, Kayla Brist (Josh Moen); four great-grandchildren, Gracee, Avery, Isaiah and Zoey; brother, Arthur Johnson of Ottertail, MN; sisters, Alma Klug of Fargo, ND; Mary Lou Jensen of Colorado Springs, CO; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, Alfred, Lester, Gordon, Henry, Edwin, Clifford and Charles Johnson, three sisters, Lily Plum, Hilda Sell and Joyce Greenwaldt.
