Duane Milton Hanson

  Duane M. Hanson 89, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016 at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. Duane Milton Hanson was born on April 6, 1927 to Edward and Myra (Colvin) Hanson in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He attended country school at District #15 and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. Duane also attended NDSU in Fargo, North Dakota. In 1946, Duane enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed in Virginia and Los Alamos, New Mexico. On April 8, 1950 he was united in marriage to Arleen Braaten. They made their home north of Detroit Lakes and started a dairy and grain farm. Together they raised their seven children. Arleen passed away in July of 2013. Duane continued to farm until he entered Emmanuel Nursing Home on May 25, 2016. Duane was an active member of Richwood Lutheran Church. He served on the Hamden Township Board and the Buffalo River Watershed Board. Duane was also a member of the Farm Bureau and the American Legion. Duane will be dearly missed by family and friends. Duane is survived by his children Dan Hanson, of Moorhead, MN; Dwight Hanson, of Audubon, MN; Brad (Leah) Hanson, of Audubon, MN; and Sharlene (Kevin) Mattson, of Kindred, ND; and Sheila (Gordon) Olson, of Fredericksburg, VA; Brian (Lisa) Hanson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; twelve grandchildren, Derek (Summer) Hanson, Danelle Hanson, Dustin (Andrea) Hanson, Sheena (Zack) Bateson, Jeremiah Mattson, Theta Olson, Chris (Kayla) Hanson, Catrina Olson, Eric Hanson, Miata Olson, Korey Hanson, and Christian Hanson; seven great grandchildren, Anna, Avva, Tyler, and Arra Hanson, Isaac and Ethan Bateson, Zoey Leidholm and baby Hanson to be born in September of 2016; brothers, Don Hanson of Kent, WA; Allen Hanson of Sheboygan, WI; Curt (Evie) Hanson Spokane, WA; sister-in-law, Ruthie Farm of Portland, OR; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Arleen, son Gary “Chester” Hanson; his parents; daughter in law, Debbie Hanson.
