Eugene LeRoy Kohler

Eugene L. Kohler age 93 of Detroit Lakes, MN died June 13, 2016 at Essentia Health Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. Eugene LeRoy Kohler was born June 23, 1922 in Hamden Township of rural Audubon, MN to James and Nora (Friese) Kohler. He grew up and attended District #44 Country School near his home and also worked on the family farm. On Dec. 11, 1949 he was united in marriage to Darlene Weets in Audubon, MN. They lived in Westbury, MN for a short time before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1951. Eugene worked in the body shop for Kandt’s. He later started his career for the Becker County Highway Department, where he worked for over forty two years. Eugene enjoyed flower gardening and deer hunting. He was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his wife Darlene; two daughters, Linda Kohler, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and LeAnn (Russell) Hanson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; three grandchildren, Ronnie (Danielle) Hanson, of Frazee, MN; Tanya (Tim) Hockett, of Frazee, MN; and Daniel Hanson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; four great grandchildren, Trevor, Trenton, and Treyson Hockett, and Cailin Vargason; one brother, Lloyd (Pearl) Kohler, of Audubon, MN; two sisters in law, Virginia Thompson and Carolyn Kohler; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Norman, Leslie, Lyle, Royal, Archie, and Ronnie Kohler; and two sisters, Helen Hendrickson and Darlene Johnson.
