Lorraine “Corky” Vorwerk age 82 of Detroit Lakes, MN died July 12, 2016 at Ecumen- Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Lorraine Vorwerk was born May 7, 1934 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Alfred and Lilly (Peterson) Lundberg. She grew up and attended country school in rural Detroit Lakes. In 1948 she moved into Detroit Lakes and graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1952. In November of 1952 she married Lyle Birky in Tucson, AZ. They lived in Los Angeles, CA, where Lorraine worked for Biltmore Homes and General Electric. Shortly thereafter they returned to the midwest eventually settling in Luverne, MN in 1964. Lyle was killed in a trucking accident in 1974. She married Donald Vorwerk in 1976 in Sisseton, SD. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. Lorraine owned and operated the Yarn Barn in Detroit Lakes for a number of years. She taught knitting, crocheting, and quilting. She also enjoyed baking and decorating cakes and cookies. She is survived by one son, Zane (Barb) Birky, of Eden Prairie, MN; four daughters, Zoe (Alan) Harnack, of Beaver Creek, MN; Calene (David) Williams, of Roseville, CA; Rachele (Roger) Taylor, of Lakeville, MN; and Memory (Mark Hokanson) Grones, of Sauk Centre, MN; one stepson, Gene (Sherry) Vorwerk, of North Branch, MN; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; one sister, Marilyn (David) Mills, of Pleasant Hills, MO; one brother, Darrell (Diane) Lundberg, of Branson, MO; and family friend, Rick Weisser, of Detroit Lakes, MN. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lyle Birky (1974); second husband, Donald Vorwerk (2008); one brother, Conrad Lundberg; one sister, Shirley “Cookie” Coffee; and her parents.
