Arlene J. Billington

Arlene J. Billington age 85 of Detroit Lakes, MN died October 18, 2016 at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. Arlene Joan Billington was born July 14, 1931 in Verndale, MN to Douglas and Helen (Buckland) Baker. She graduated from Verndale High School in 1949. She attended Fergus Falls Teacher’s College, earning an associate’s Degree. She taught school in a Wadena County Country School near Bluegrass, MN. On August 6, 1955 she was united in marriage to Rolland P. Billington in rural Verndale, MN. They made their home in the Verndale area before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1964. Arlene enjoyed lake life and entertaining in her home. She was a master gardener and an accomplished seamstress. She is survived by one daughter, Kaylene (Todd Schmitz) Billington, of Plymouth, MN; one son, Gary Billington, of St. Cloud, MN; two grandsons, Tristan Schmitz and Kieran Schmitz; and one brother, Robert (Jane) Baker, of Verndale, MN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rolland (1977); her parents; and two brothers, Larry and Norman Baker. Memorial Services will be on Saturday October 22, 2016; 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes, MN.
