Norman O. Amundson age 99 of Detroit Lakes, MN died October 31, 2016 at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.Norman Amundson was born August 8, 1917 in Portland, ND to Alvin and Jorgine Amundson. Norman married Frances Rindy on September 4, 1938. They lived on a farm near Callaway and had two children, Dale and Sharon. In 1945 they moved into Callaway and started the Champlin Oil Company. Frances was killed in an automobile accident in August of 1955 and at that time Norman sold the gas business and went back to farming west of Callaway. On July 24, 1958 he married Orpha Austinson and adopted her daughter Rachel. They lived in Callaway until their retirement in 1978. They built a home on Floyd Lake and spent their winters in Weslaco, TX.He is survived by his son Dale (Ramona), of Detroit Lakes, MN; son in law, Jim Collinge; one sister, Delores; one brother, Alvin; four grandchildren, Michael (Karen) Amundson; Susan (Mitch) Leupp; Brian (Sara) Shepard; and Greg (Sherri) Shepard; nine great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Frances; second wife Orpha; two daughters, Sharon and Rachel; five brothers; and two sisters.Memorial Services will be on Thursday November 3, 2016; 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
