Dr. Clark G. Borstad

January 10, 1939 — November 3, 2016

Borstad, Dr. Clark G. "Corky" Age 77, of Detroit Lakes, passed away peacefully at his home on 11/3/16 after a long battle with dementia. He was born January 10, 1939 to Gordon and Gwendolyn (Dahl) Borstad of Detroit Lakes, MN. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carmen Borstad (Gilman); son Fredrik (Margaret) of Wayzata, MN, daughter Leslie (David) Haradin of Steamboat Springs, CO; his adoring grandchildren Ellie, Jane, Annie and Taj; brothers Hans (Suzanne) and Eric (Janis) Borstad, many nieces and nephews, and his furry couch-companion Lulu.   Corky graduated from Detroit Lakes High School in 1957, received his undergraduate degree from University of North Dakota in 1961 and graduated from the University of Minnesota Dental School in 1965. He did his oral surgery residency at Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, NY and Boston University. Corky had practices in Minneapolis, Bloomington, Moorhead and Detroit Lakes. He also served for 25 years in the ND Air National Guard as a dentist and achieved the rank of Lt. Col.   Although Corky never obtained a degree from the school of political correctness, he was funny and smart and a very loyal friend who loved nothing more than a good road trip. When he wasn’t out seeking new adventures, he was happiest lounging at Round Lake and Meadow Lake. He hated phonies and hypocrites. He loved books and beaches, hunting and traveling, and the Holiday Campers. He was a collector of curios and a teller of stories. He always had a twinkle in his eye. He was our Santa. We are so saddened by the loss of a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle and friend who always made us laugh. He will be forever missed.   An Open House in celebration of Corky's life will be held at The Lodge on Lake Detroit on Saturday, November 12, 1-4pm. Friends and family are invited to share stories and memories starting at 2:30pm. Arrangements by West-Kjos Funeral Home and Cremation Services.   The family would like to give special thanks to Marian and Greg Beske, Dave Powers, Hans and Sue Borstad and the staff of Hospice of the Red River Valley for their loving care of Corky over the past few years, and to Audrey and Roger Omlid for all of their help and support. In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to Hospice of the Red River Valley: 1701 38th St S #101, Fargo ND 58103.
