Ruth E. Nelson

Ruth E. Nelson age 56 of Detroit Lakes, MN died November 3, 2016 at her residence. Ruth Elaine Nelson was born September 19, 1960 in Detroit Lakes, MN to William and Dorothy (Totland) Haspel. She grew up and received her education in Detroit Lakes, graduating from Detroit Lakes High School in 1978. On December 1, 1978 she was united in marriage to Milton D. Nelson. They made their home and raised their children in Detroit Lakes. Ruth formerly worked as the manager of DL Ag Service and was currently employed as a Correction Officer for the Becker County Sheriff’s Department, where she has worked for the past fifteen years. Ruth was very creative and artistic. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, and quilting. She was best known for her pottery work, which she has sold throughout the country. She also enjoyed farming and animals, especially calves and baby pigs. She also loved flower gardening and was very meticulous about how her lawn looked. She is survived by two daughters, Stacey (Todd) Frank, of Audubon, MN; and Chris (Kirk) Brown, of Billings, MT; one son Jeff (Reagan Dunn) Nelson, of Pocatello, ID; seven grandchildren, Brayden and Tyler Brown; Mason Frank; Kaden, Jace, and Nicholas Gordon; and Elena Nelson; seven sisters, JoAnn (Donnie) Mastin; Diane (Lee) Bentley; Suzie (Ambrose) Beaudoin; Wanda (Tony) Bissell; Brenda (John) Seley; Mary Olson; and Sharon (Duane) Pihlaja; six brothers, Kenny (Lori) Haspel; Charlie (Danell) Haspel; Jimmy Haspel; David Haspel; Mark (Deb) Haspel; and Mike (Brenda) Haspel; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton (2013); one brother, Billy Haspel; and her parents. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday November 9, 2016; 11:00 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes; with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Bakke Lutheran Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
