Frederick L. “Bunny” Kertscher age 92 of Detroit Lakes, MN died November 14, 2016 at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND. Fred Kertscher was born September 15, 1924 in Detroit Lakes, MN to Leonard and Anna (Larson) Kertscher. He grew up and received his education in Detroit Lakes, graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946. On January 25, 1947 he was united in marriage to Ruth Bevins. They made their home in Detroit Lakes. Fred drove truck and worked various construction jobs. In 1956 they purchased a farm near Detroit Lakes. Fred farmed and drove bus for the Detroit Lakes School District for many years. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, working word puzzles, playing cards, and his animals. Fred is survived by one son, David Kertscher, of Detroit Lakes, MN; five daughters, Sandra O’Connor, of Wendell, MN; Myrna (Jim) Vickroy, of Maple Grove, MN; Cynthia (Leo Retz) Tucker, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Julia (Todd Paulson) Hanson, of Emerado, ND; and Donna Foust, of Friendsville, TN; fifteen grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; three sisters, Lorraine “Biddy” (Elmer) Seim, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Fern Kane, of St. Paul, MN; and Elaine Livingood, of Olivia, MN; three brothers, Leonard “Bucky” Kertscher, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Lester (Pat) Kertscher, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Allen “Reddy” (Valerie) Kertscher, of Barnsville, MN; and many nieces and nephews. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth (2012); two sons, Douglas Kertscher and Dennis Kertscher; two brothers, John Kertscher and Richard Kertscher; one sister Ann “Tootsie” Stanton; and his parents.
