Muriel A. Mollberg

March 15, 1930 — January 15, 2017

Muriel Mollberg, age 86 of Detroit Lakes, MN entered eternal life on Sunday, January 15, 2017, at Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes with loving family members at her side.  Muriel Anne Mollberg was born March 15, 1930 in Bathgate, ND to Herbert and Kathleen (Henderson) Thomson. In Bathgate she was surrounded by grandparents, aunts, and uncles who adored her. She grew up and received her education in Bathgate, graduating from High School in 1946. She then attended Moorhead State University, where she earned Degrees in English, Speech, and Social Studies. It was at Moorhead State where she met the love of her life, Del Mollberg.  On March 29, 1952 she was united in marriage to Del in Moorhead, MN. They made their first home in Long Prairie before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1959.   Mother of eightOur Mom nursed sick kidsAnd folded laundry. Father of the sameOur Dad drove a blue truckAnd coached football In 1960 Muriel and Del took the greatest financial risk of their young lives and took out a burdensome mortgage on a small red house on a little blue lake.  It was in this home that they would raise their children and find their greatest happiness. Muriel and Del loved Detroit Lakes and were both active in serving the community.  Muriel was a member of the Library Club and the Damiens, and was very active at the United Methodist Church. She enjoyed life at the lake, traveling, reading and time spent with her family. Muriel taught English at Detroit Lakes High School from 1968-1991. Education was very important to her and she was proud that all of her children were college graduates. Family and friends were Muriel s passion and delight.  As a mother, Muriel was always there and always welcoming.  Each child traveled to sit by her side and share their joys and their greatest worries. The keeper of secrets, Muriel perpetually offered a supportive ear, words of advice and nuggets of wisdom. She never judged the choices of her children or of others.  She will be missed beyond measure by those she leaves behind, but the celebration in heaven is never-ending as a loving spouse, devoted family and long missed friends welcome and embrace her at heaven s gate. Muriel is survived by four daughters, Anne Swanson, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Cheryl Mollberg, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Barb (Brian Clark) Mollberg, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Mary Beth (Craig) Caulfield, of Detroit Lakes, MN; three sons, Kim (Jamie) Mollberg, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Kent (Patty) Mollberg, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Scott (Gayle) Mollberg, of Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, Carly (Nick) Lenzen, Alex Mollberg, John Mollberg, Katie Mollberg, Joe Mollberg, Katelyn Caulfield, and Mary Kate Caulfield; six great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Jane (Gary) Cuffe, of Hawthorne, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
