Adeline E. Carlson

Adeline Eleanor Carlson, 92 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017 in Ecumen-Emmanuel Nursing Home. Adeline Burt was born Oct. 19, 1924 in Hibbing, MN the daughter of Ivan and Selma (Norquist) Burt. She was raised and attended school there. After her graduation from high school she worked in that community. On June 10, 1944 she was united in marriage to Carl Carlson from Tower, MN. They lived in Duluth, MN, Tucson, AZ, and then Minneapolis, MN in 1948. After their children were older, Adeline was employed as assistant librarian for both Earle Brown Elementary School and Brooklyn Center High School. This was a career she truly loved and worked at until 1968.  After the death of their son Donald in Vietnam, making her a Gold Star mother, she retired and spent her time at home and at her church. Carl died in 2003 and Adeline lived in Minneapolis until she moved to the Detroit Lakes community in 2012.  For the past four years she has lived in the Emmanuel Nursing Home. Adeline loved reading, writing poetry, painting and completing jigsaw puzzles. She will be remembered for her visiting with all of her friends. She was known to stop total strangers and strike up a lengthy conversation. While living in Minneapolis she was active in the Hope Lutheran Church. Adeline is survived by one son, Robert (Jan) Carlson, Akeley, MN, two daughters, Pat (Allen) Raad, Detroit Lakes and Linda (Bob) Meisch, Crystal, MN 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carl, one son Donald LeRoy, one brother and one sister. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, Feb. 21 at 2:00 pm in the Faith Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes. Interment will be at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, Minneapolis, MN.
