Patricia S. Mahlum

Patricia S. Mahlum age 78 of Detroit Lakes, MN and Mission, TX passed away on February 19, 2017 at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes. Patricia Shirley Mahlum was born January 17, 1939 in Fargo, ND to Glenn and Mary (Dudgeon) Monson. She attended Detroit Lakes High School where she met her husband Virgil Mahlum and they were married on August 17, 1957 in Fargo, ND. They made their home in Moorhead, MN and Big Cormorant Lake. After many years as the office manager for Internal Auditing Service in both Lake Park, MN and Fargo, ND she retired with her husband and they built a home in Mission, TX, where they spent the winter months. During the summer months they spent their time at their home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Patty was an active member of the Cormorant Lutheran Church, where she served on several committees and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and dear friend. She will be deeply missed by many. The family wishes to thank the entire staff at Oak Crossing Nursing Home for the wonderful care that Patty received while a resident there. Patty is survived by her husband Virgil, of Mission, TX and Detroit Lakes, MN; one daughter, Lynae (Parish) Jones, of Gonzales, LA; step mother, Mary Monson, of Fargo, ND; five brothers, Bruce (Jackie) Monson, of Billings, MT; Glenn (Judy) Monson, of New Brighton, MN; Steve Monson, of Fargo, ND; Jeff (Genine) Monson, of Fargo, ND; and Patrick Monson, of Fargo, ND; five sisters, Michelane (Jim) Jess, of Reno, NV; Shirley (Tony) Olson, of Osage, MN; Mary Jo (Craig) Lynde, of Scottsdale, AZ; Julie (Paul) Hanson, of Fargo, ND; and Kathie (Chet) Peterson, of Chanhassen, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one son, Thomas Mahlum. Memorial Services will be on Saturday March 4, 2017; 11:00 a.m. at the Cormorant Lutheran Church, rural Lake Park, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Cormorant Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Cormorant Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
