Leola L. Shockley age 82 of Detroit Lakes, MN died February 19, 2017 at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. Leola Lorraine Shockley was born March 25, 1934 in Eureka, Utah to Chester and Emma (Ewell) Steele. The family moved to the Bemidji, MN area when Leola was a young girl. On June 10, 1950 she was united in marriage to Lawrence Shockley in Bemidji, MN. They lived in the Bemidji area until moving to Detroit Lakes in 1976. Shortly after her husband’s death, Leola moved to Oregon. She lived there for fifteen years before moving back to Detroit Lakes in 2007. She has been a resident at Oak Crossing for five years. Leola loved animals. She took in and cared for many different animals over the years. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, music, dancing, crafts, and card and board games. She liked being around people, and always had a smile on her face. Time spent with her family was very important to her. She was survived by two daughters, Connie (Paul) Schlosser, of Blackduck, MN; and Judy (Rick) Hodge, of Kingman, AZ; three sons, Kenneth Shockley, of Bemidji, MN; David (Mary) Shockley, of Sprague River, OR; and Jeffery (Sharon) Shockley, of Detroit Lakes, MN; fourteen grandchildren; thirty one great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence “Pete” Shockley (1980); two grandchildren, Dawn Shockley and Kevin Shockley; and one great granddaughter, Paris Risland. Funeral Services will be on Friday February 24, 2017; 11:00 a.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
