Elmer J. Seim

Elmer J. Seim age 95 of Detroit Lakes, MN died May 26, 2017 at Ecumen – Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Elmer Julian Seim was born December 25, 1921 in rural Pelican Rapids, MN to Syver and Sophie (LeGrand) Seim. He attended Country School near his home and later attended pelican Rapids High School, where he graduated in 1941. He then moved to a farm near Detroit Lakes. On June 21, 1946 he was united in marriage to Lorraine Kertscher. They lived their entire lives and raised their children on what is still the Seim Farm. Over the years Elmer farmed and drove truck and in 1962 established the Seim Produce Market in the Shoreham area. He also owned and operated Seim Construction for many years. Elmer was a very active member of Augustana Lutheran Church for 65 years. He served on numerous boards over the years including Emmanuel Nursing Home, Pelican River Watershed, and Detroit Lakes Economic Authority. He was a longtime 4-H leader, and member of the Sons of Norway. He enjoyed deer hunting, cross country skiing, and was an avid sports fan. He is survived by his wife Lorraine “Biddy” Seim; eight sons, LeRoy Seim, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Bruce (Julia –Dee) Seim, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Thomas (Ann) Seim, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Steven (Mary) Seim, of Wheatland, WY; Dennis (Becky) Seim, of Schereville, IN; Howard (Sherry) Seim, of Rochester, MN; Kenneth Seim, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Gerald (Sue) Seim, of Thief  River Falls, MN; three daughters, Connie Claire Welander, of Portland, OR; Janelle (Daryl) Thompson, of Elk River, MN; and Julie (Mark) Ladeen, of Ramsey, MN; twenty nine grandchildren; twenty five great grandchildren; one sister, Alfryda Livingood, of Fergus Falls, MN; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Leslie Seim; three brothers; three sisters; and his parents. Funeral Services will be on Friday June 2, 2017; 2:00 p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral in Detroit Lakes, MN, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Augustana Lutheran Church Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN.
