Richard "Dick" Meyer

October 15, 1936 — July 12, 2017

Richard "Dick" Meyer died peacefully at his home in Audubon, MN, in the early hours of July 12th at the age of 80 years old.  Richard was born in Tracy, MN, to Fred and Nellie Meyer.  He married Bonnie Sass August 31, 1956, moved to Moorhead, MN in 1959, and then in 1969 moved to the community of Audubon, where he and Bonnie lived and raised their family.  Dick spent his life in the military.  In his retirement, he was involved with the American Legion, St. Peter's Lutheran Church Men's Bible study, and was an accomplished woodworker.  There are many things we can say to describe his life, but at the end of the day, there were three things that truly mattered to him:  his God, his family, his country. Never once during his life did he let any of the three down.   He is survived by his wife Bonnie; one daughter, Julie (Dewey) Kohler, of Park River, ND; two sons, David (Tammy) Meyer, of Glencoe, MN; and James (Paul Zapala) Meyer, of Palm Springs, CA; five grandchildren, Matthew Kohler, Erika (Steven) Brauner, Sarah Kohler, Amanda Meyer, and Dawson Meyer; two brothers, LaMoine Meyer and Alan Meyer; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.   He was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Jessica Meyer; two brothers, Deane Meyer and Donald Meyer; three sisters, Chloris Nickerson, Audrey Connell, and Norma England; and his parents.   Funeral Services will be Saturday July 15, 2017; 10:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, rural Audubon, MN. Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be in the St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery, rural Audubon, MN.   In Lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Elevator Fund.
