Janet Nelson

Janet I. Nelson age 94 of Detroit Lakes, MN died Sunday September 17, 2017 at Essentia Health – Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes, MN. Janet Irene Nelson was born March 5, 1923 in Ulen, MN to Fred and Inga Syverson Nelson. The family moved to Rochert, MN when Janet was a young girl. She grew up and attended District 40 Country School near her home. On September 9, 1946 she was united in marriage to Henry Nelson in Evergreen, MN. They made their home in Moorhead, MN for a short time. While living in Moorhead, Janet worked at the Moorhead Laundry. They moved back to Detroit Lakes, and over the years Janet worked at Swift’s, Zephyr Cleaners, Service Cleaners, and Carroll’s Cleaners. She also cleaned for the Irvine Ramstad Law Firm in Detroit Lakes, and the Detroit Lakes Holiday Inn. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, music, drives in the country, Casino trips, and her cat. Janet is survived by three daughters, Carol (Paul) Thunstrom, of Detroit Lakes, MN; Sharon (Daryle) Russell, of Bemidji, MN; and Marlene (Kevin) Lindstrom, of Bemidji, MN; eleven grandchildren; twenty two great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; one brother, Edward (Carol) Nelson, of Rochert, MN; one sister, Frances Kruger, of Perham, MN; and several nieces and nephews. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Henry (1975); one daughter, Barbara Hedstrom; one infant grandson, Darren Hedstrom; one brother, Mervin Nelson; one brother in law, Julius Kruger; and her parents.
