Edna Buschette

October 20, 1924 — September 18, 2017

Edna Catherine Buschette, 92, of Detroit Lakes, passed away Monday, Sept 18, 2017 in Oak Crossing Nursing Home under care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, on Friday Sept 22 at 1PM. Visitation will be one hour prior to Mass. Interment will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes. Edna was born October 20, 1924, in Norfolk Township, Bird Island, MN, to William and Julia (Keltgen) Leach. She grew up on the farm just south of Bird Island and graduated from Saint Mary's High school with the class of 1942.  After high school Edna attended school in Glencoe, MN earning her teaching certificate in 1944.  She went on to teach in a one-room country school south of Bird Island for two years. She took summer classes to obtain her teaching degree which allowed her to teach outside of rural schools.  Upon completion of her degree, Edna taught in Osakis, MN, Sauk Center, MN, and finished her teaching career in Detroit Lakes where she taught first grade at Washington Elementary for 10 years. Edna was united in marriage to Lloyd Buschette at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bird Island on June 10th, 1961.  They made their home in Detroit Lakes, where Edna devoted much of her time and energy to being a homemaker and mother to her four children. Edna had many interests which included gardening, crafts, jigsaw puzzles, board games and most importantly spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a wonderful baker, known by her family and friends for her pies, cinnamon bread, cakes and cookies.  Edna was also talented in making jellies which included rhubarb, raspberry, chokecherry and strawberry.  They were all delicious!  Edna always put others before herself and demonstrated what patience, love and kindness truly meant. Edna was a long time member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Her strong faith was evident in the way she lived her life. Edna is survived by her husband Lloyd Buschette, three children:  Jeff Buschette of Detroit Lakes (Teri Buschette of Detroit Lakes), Janice Franklin of Moorhead, MN, Bob (Jacquie) Buschette of Cedar Rapids, IA; seven grandchildren:  Jared Buschette, Travis Buschette, Matt Franklin, Katie Franklin, Andrew Franklin, Logan Buschette and Sheila Buschette; one sister: Sister Ann William Leach; brother-in-law Clarence (Shirley) Buschette and sister-in-law Sue Buschette. She is preceded in death by her parents, one son: Roger Buschette, son-in-law:  William Franklin, three sisters:  Julia (Odean) Olson, Eva (Osborne) Wangen, Rose"Betty"(Ken) Dingels, six brothers:  Ray Leach, Henry Leach, Walt Leach, Jack (Dolores) Leach, Bob (Katherine) Leach, Francis (Arlene) Leach; brother- in- laws and sister-in-laws:   Irene (Charlie) Johnson,  Ivan (Ione) Buschette, Danny (Dolly) Buschette, Lawrence (Rose) Buschette, Ray (Lillian) Buschette, Edwin Buschette, Sylvia (Roy) Boman. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or Special Olympics.
