Alton O. Haugen

Alton O. Haugen age 67 of Twin Valley, MN died September 18, 2017 at the VA Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Born March 22, 1950 to Anton and Opal Heimark Haugen, Alton graduated from Lake Park High School, attended the Detroit Lakes Vocational School, and worked for Kandt Pontiac Buick in Detroit Lakes. He then served in the U.S. Army from 1973-1979. He was stationed in Nurenberg, Germany. Al had an international drivers license and drove the Autobahn at speeds of over 100 mph. While in Germany, Al installed Lasers on Sherman Tanks. After his discharge Al sold new and used vehicles for Kostal Ford in Park Rapids, MN. Al claims his best job was as a rural newspaper carrier for D.L. Printing. Al made a lot of new friends, papers were the main focus until a severe heart attack sidelined him. Al loved God and Jesus, keeping membership in Park Lutheran Church. His cats Rusty, Bear, and Miss Sarah were very important to him. Al loved life and Jesus Christ.  Grieve not for me, but pray for those left behind, I have gone to a better world. Amen. Al is survived by a sister, Norma (Marlin) Ackerson, of Barnesville, MN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be on Saturday September 23, 2017; 11:00 a.m. at the Park Lutheran Church, rural Hawley, MN. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Park Lutheran Church Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
