Andor “Andy” B. Ness Sr. age 75 of Detroit Lakes, MN died January 3, 2018 at Essentia Health – St. Mary’s Hospital in Detroit Lakes, MN. Andor Boyd Ness was born November 17, 1942 in Gonvick, MN to Boyd and Alice (Rud) Ness. He grew up and attended school in Gonvick, MN, graduating from Gonvick High School. He worked for his brother in a gas station in Fosston, MN and later managed an auto parts store in Park Rapids, MN. On July 6, 1963 he was united in marriage to Diane Haugen in Gully, MN. They made their home in Bemidji, MN where Andy owned an auto parts store. They moved to Detroit Lakes in 1965 and owned and operated Andy’s Standard Station. In 1969 he started his career in the granite business, working for Detroit Lakes Granite. In 1978 he founded Ness Granite, which he owned and operated until recently. Andy enjoyed hunting, playing cards, shaking dice, and going to the casino. His real hobby was buying and selling real estate, vehicles and classic cars. He enjoyed the many years he wintered in Florida. He was an avid sports fan.  Country music was a big part of his life. Andy and Diane were proud to be one of the first sponsors of WE FEST in 1983. He was a member of the Elks, Eagles, and Sons of Norway. Spending time with family was very important to him. He is survived by two daughters, Kelly (Emil) Belen, of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Kristen (Jeffrey Sr.) Branden, of Detroit Lakes, MN; two sons, Andy (Alice) Ness Jr., of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Casey Ness, of Detroit Lakes, MN; sixteen grandchildren; fifteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Bloyd (Shirley) Ness, of Gonvick, MN; and Bradley (Sandy) Ness, of Fargo, ND; many nieces and nephews; and close friend Myrna Rousu. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; one great grandson, Jamison Brown; three brothers, Owen Ness, Richard “Dick” Ness, and infant brother, Ardean Ness; his parents; and his dog Dale “the best dog in the world”.
