Arland O. Wisted age 98 of Detroit Lakes, MN died December 28, 2017 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND. Arland was born on December 14, 1919 to Alphine and Thor Wisted near Detroit Lakes, MN. He grew up in Detroit Lakes and at the age of 21 joined the United States Army, serving from 1941 to 1946. He was assigned to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Aberdeen, MD in the 40th Ordnance Co. where he taught small arms repair. In 1945 as a Technical Sergeant he was assigned to the China, Burma India Theater of Operations. While serving in Aberdeen he married Lois Anderson in Washington DC on March 25, 1944. Following his discharge they made their home and raised their family in Detroit Lakes. Arland joined his father and brother Morrel in T.A. Wisted and Sons Construction Company. In 1967 Arland and Morrel purchased and operated the Hardware Hank Store in Detroit Lakes until Arland’s retirement. Arland loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting as he was a (Dyed-in-the-Wool Deer Hunter). He also enjoyed fishing, trapshooting, and spending time at his cabin on Juggler Lake. Arland was the last living charter member of the Becker County Sportsman’s Club that was established on January 21, 1941. He served with the Jaycees, First Lutheran Church, DL Police Civil Service Commission, DL Public Utiities Commission, DL Chamber of Commerce, Eagles Club, Sons of Norway, NRA Life Member, and Amateur Trap Shooting Association member. Arland is survived by his wife Lois; two daughters, Mary (Lanny) Waalen of Detroit Lakes, MN; and Carolyn (Randy) Osborne, of Cottonwood, AZ; one son, David (Sue) Wisted, of St. Cloud, MN; one brother, Nyle (June) Wisted, of Mesa, AZ; five grandchildren, Brook Waalen, Micah Waalen, Shawn Osborne, Gretchen Osborne, and D.J. Wisted; and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Borghild and Athleen; and one brother, Morrel. Memorials are preferred in Lieu of flowers.
