Athrelda "Art" Brickson

September 7, 1926 — February 26, 2018

Athrelda “Art” Brickson was born September 7, 1926 in Detroit Lakes, the daughter of George and Geneva (Joy) Sloan. She passed away February 26, 2018 at Oak Crossing nursing home in Detroit Lakes. She was baptized and confirmed at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Art attended school at Holy Rosary School and later graduated from Detroit Lakes High School. She continued her education attending Beauty College in Minneapolis before moving back to Detroit Lakes. On June 2, 1948, Art was united in marriage to Arvid Brickson at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes. To this union one daughter Barb was born. They made their home in Detroit Lakes and Art worked as a receptionist in Dr. Arnold Larson office. She later worked at Evans grocery store as a clerk and book keeper. Art volunteered at Holy Rosary Church, meals on wheels, and served communion to people in their homes. She enjoyed crocheting, going for rides around the lake, and attending sewing club with her close friends. She was known for making her homemade buns that she would donate to the church bazaar.  Art followed the Minnesota Twins and would listen to their games faithfully.  Finally, Art loved good conversation and visiting with the people she lived with at the Winchester, Lincoln Park, and Oak Crossing. Art is survived by her daughter: Barb (Steve) Drewitz of Faribault; grandson: Matt (Julie) Drewitz and their son Jack of Mankato; grandson: Dan (Cari Jo) Drewitz of Woodbury; two brothers: Gerald (Irene) Sloan of Detroit Lakes, Norbert (Fran) Sloan of Duluth; sister, Genny Clukey of Mount Dora, Florida, and many nieces and nephews and special friends. She was preceded death by her husband Arvid Brickson in 2002, her parents George and Geneva, and her sisters Adeline Gordon, Rosie Wallgren, and Margaret Krenelka.
