Beverly Eileen Skogen

November 6, 1938 — February 4, 2024

Detroit Lakes

Beverly Eileen Skogen passed away Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024, at Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.

Beverly lived a life surrounded by family, friends, laughter and the best food. Whether she was entertaining in her home with a game of cards and plate of whatever she’d lovingly whipped up in the kitchen or preparing communion at First Lutheran Church, Beverly devoted her time to serving others. Up until his passing in 2011, Beverly was almost always working, playing and traveling side by side with the love of her life, Kermit Skogen.

Beverly was born Nov. 6, 1938, in Rothsay, Minnesota, to Alvin and Selma (Carlsrud) Theodorson. At age 16, Beverly met Kermit and they began their many years together, eventually marrying Aug. 25, 1957. Partners in every aspect of life, they moved to Detroit Lakes to build a life, family and business together. Together, they raised four children in a home full of love, friends and special meals. Though operating a business often meant late nights and stressful days around the adding machine, her devotion to their family and faith meant they faced challenges with humor and humility.

Beverly showed her love and creativity through cooking, baking, sewing and crafting – all hobbies she shared with her five grandchildren. Beverly was a great friend, always prepared for an afternoon chat over a cup of coffee. Though dementia took her ability to enjoy these things in the final years of her life, they are the memories she shared with anyone who visited.

Beverly is survived by her daughter, Kris Shaffer; three sons, Brian (Geri) Skogen; Jon (Steve Ransone) Skogen; Brad (Laura) Skogen; five grandchildren, Jill (Rey) Fuglestad, Heidi (Troy) Reisenauer, Patrick (Maisie) Skogen, Berit Skogen and Cass Skogen; six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two brothers, Lyman Theodorson and Gordon Flatin; and a grandson, Joshua Shaffer.

A funeral service will be held Feb. 27, with visitation from 10-11, with services at 11 at First Lutheran Church, Detroit Lakes, followed by the burial at Hamar Cemetery in Rothsay.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial in her honor.
