Bob Shasky

Michael Robert (Bob) Shasky age 94 of Detroit Lakes, MN died September 1, 2025, at the Frazee Care Center in Frazee, MN.

Bob was born October 6, 1930, in Richville, MN to Michael and Mamie (Greenwood) Shasky. He attended school through the eighth grade in Richville and then transferred to Perham High School. Following his high school days, he joined the United States Air Force, where he was trained in Florida and served in England. After receiving an honorable discharge, he enrolled in electrician school in Minneapolis, MN. Bob decided that he wasn’t happy in electrician school, so he enrolled in the Molor Barber College in Minneapolis. He graduated from Barber college in 1958. He spent his internship in Moorhead, MN, working with Jim Gooselaw.

On July 5, 1959, he married Marlene (Millie) Berend. Bob purchased a partnership with Duane Dann in the OK Barber Shop in Detroit Lakes, where Bob and Millie made their home for many years. Bob was known for his expertise in cutting crew cut haircuts. He retired in 1998.

Bob and Millie purchased a home on Lake Seven near Frazee, MN in 1989. They enjoyed living on the lake and entertaining friends and relatives. They held get togethers on the 4th of July that usually included 30 to 35 people. Bob and Millie had two sons, Todd and Bret, whom Bob was extremely proud of. Bob enjoyed attending the ball games that his sons participated in, hunting, fishing, playing cards, and going to the Casino.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Millie; two sons, Todd (Deb) Shasky and Brett (Kathleen) Shasky; six grandchildren, Katelyn Shasky, Megan Shasky, BreAnn Mars, Jacob Shasky, Alisha Porter, and Jessica Lehman; he was also blessed with six great grandchildren, Oliver Lehman, Vivienne Lehman, Evelyn Lehman, Otto Mortenson, Nora Mortenson, and Tripp Mars.

The Shasky family would like to thank the staff at the Frazee Care Center for the compassionate care that Bob received.

Funeral Services will be on Monday September 8, 2025; 11:00 a.m. at the David-Donehower Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN, with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Detroit Lakes, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to the West-Kjos Funeral Home of Detroit Lakes.
