With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Brenda Sue Kersting (formerly Brenda Sue Borgrud), age 75, who died peacefully under the care of Vivie Hospice on April 3, 2026.

Brenda was born on June 2, 1950, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, to Orrin and Minnie Borgrud. She was raised in a loving family and carried those values of faith, kindness, and devotion throughout her life.

Brenda was a woman who truly lit up every room she entered. She was known for her incredible sense of humor and quick wit, always ready with a joke or a laugh that brought joy to those around her. Her home was a place of warmth and welcome, where baked goodies were always on hand for anyone who stopped by, and where everyone was cared for before she ever thought of herself.

She had a beautiful gift for nurturing—whether it was through her relationships or her love for gardening. She would spend the warmer months in her garden and flower beds and soaking up the sun.

She had a love for music that spanned generations, especially rock and roll. From Elvis to Bon Jovi, Cher to Joan Jett, her favorites were always playing and added to the rhythm of her life. And those who knew her well will smile remembering her enjoyment of a cold Bud Light shared in good company.

Brenda’s faith was an important part of her life. She was raised in the United Church of Christ (Circles of Faith) in Waubun, and that foundation of faith carried her through life’s joys and challenges.

Brenda is survived by her loving spouse, Mark Kersting; her children, Bobi Lyn (Tim) Spaeth and Amber (Kyle Heisler) Nefzger; and her cherished grandchildren, Dustin (Erin) Spaeth, Jordan (Sofia) Spaeth, Makena (Jackson) Johnsrud, Tristan Nefzger, Connor Nefzger, Jaelyn Spaeth, Kimber Spaeth, and Kace Spaeth. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Kinley Spaeth, Madilyn Spaeth, and Camden Spaeth.

She is further survived by her siblings, Kathy (Rollie) Schmidt, Bruce (Colleen) Borgrud, and Todd Borgrud, along with many extended family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Orrin and Minnie Borgrud, and her infant sister, Mary.

Brenda’s legacy is one of love, laughter, and selflessness. She leaves behind a family who adored her and a community that will deeply miss her presence.

Though our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing she has been welcomed into Heaven and reunited with those who went before her. Her love, laughter, and spirit will live on in all who knew her.

A celebration of Brenda’s life will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026 where family and friends will gather to honor and remember the beautiful life she lived.
