Carol Hanson-Berg

Carol Annette Hanson was born July 29, 1946 in Fargo, ND to Colman and Luella (Peterson) Hanson of Blabon, ND.  She was baptized and confirmed at Blabon Lutheran Church.  During her membership in the church she served as a Sunday school teacher and assistant organist.  Carol received her early education in the Blabon and Hope (ND) Public Schools, graduating in 1964 from the Hope School.

During her high school years, Carol learned the printing trade at the Hope Pioneer Newspaper.  Upon high school graduation, she pursued working in the printing industry for various newspapers and printing companies, retiring in 2003.  In 1989, she graduated from the Moorhead Technical Institute (Commercial Art program) building her credentials as a computer graphic designer.  She also freelanced in this field, servicing various newspapers.

Later in life, Carol married Glenn Berg.  They enjoyed operating a hobby farm near Brandon, MN.  Retiring in 2003, they moved to the Vergas and Detroit Lakes area.  Glenn passed away in 2006.  Carol remained in the Detroit Lakes area living near her daughter, Miriam Hanson.  In 2014, she moved to Detroit Lakes.  Carol worked at Bergen’s Greenhouse and considered that her “retirement job”.  Her interests ranged from making wedding cakes, baking Scandinavian specialties, floral design, collecting family history and recipes.  In 1984, she published a family- traditions cookbook, The Seven Sisters Cookbook, based on her grandmother and siblings who originated from Alida, MN.

As a single parent, Carol valued the importance of family.  She appreciated living near daughter Miriam and family.  Becoming a grandmother & great-grandmother made life complete.

Survivors include: daughter, Miriam; grandchildren, Olivia (Nick Erickson), Taylor and Adam; great-granddaughter, Layla; siblings, C.T. Hanson, Dorothy (Reed) Satrom, and Cordell (MaryBeth) Hanson and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding Carol in death include: parents Colman and Luella Hanson; husband Glenn; sister Faye Dronen; niece Susan Dronen; sister-in-law Karen Sellie-Hanson and grandparents.

Funeral Services will be on Monday July 30, 2018; 2:00 p.m. at the West-Kjos Funeral Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. Visitation will be two hours prior to services. Interment will be in the Richville Village Cemetery, Richville, MN. Arrangements by West-Kjos Funeral Home, Detroit Lakes, MN.
